Google Maps makes life easier for bikers Gooycle (Google+Cycle)

Google maps now has an option that will make avid bikers go bonkers. It now allows you to plan your biking trip by giving you the most biker-friendly trail.

Well they have made cycling simpler with three indicators:

Dark green indicates a dedicated bike-only trail;
Light green indicates a dedicated bike lane along a road;
Dashed green indicates roads that are designated as preferred for bicycling, but without dedicated lanes

So all you have to do is go to google maps, key in your starting point and ending point and click on BICYCLING and voila...google does the rest for you. Although this is not very accurate, it is still fun to try out.

The beta version for cyclists is just a few months old. Spanning for more than 200 cities in the US and with plans to go international, there is no way to stop the cyclists now. Google Maps relies on a mash-up of data, from publicly available sources like bike maps to user-generated information.

But the best thing that can happen to this is if it comes as an i phone app.

So if you are a techie and have your old bike stacked up in your garage, well take it out now and gooycle your way...
